MICHAEL JACKSON: Family Pressures HBO on Documentary
HBO is under pressure not to air a documentary accusing Michael Jackson of child abuse.
The cable network received a harshly written 10-page letter from the Jackson estate requesting a meeting to discuss a "solution."
Attorney Howard Weitzman , representing the heirs, calls Leaving Neverland "an admittedly one-sided, sensationalist program" that ignores journalistic ethics. He's especially angry with director Dan Reed not reaching out to the estate for comments on the claims by Wade Robson and James Safechuck of sexual abuse when they were age 10 and under.
Though he doesn't threaten legal action, the lawyer attacks HBO's decision to air the film beginning March 3rd.
As of Friday, the network said it still plans to air Leaving Neverland and asked the public to "reserve judgment until they see the film." ( Billboard )
