HURRICANE LANE: Hawaii Braces for Category 5 Storm

Hawaii is preparing for Hurricane Lane which is barreling toward the Aloha State as a powerful category 5 storm.

The storm is moving northwest over the Pacific and is packing sustained winds of 160 miles per hour. It is expected to affect the western part of the Big Island tomorrow and could dump anywhere from 10-to-15 inches of rain. It is then forecast to turn toward the other islands and make a direct pass over Oahu and the city of Honolulu on Friday as a weaker category 2 storm.

Lane will be the first hurricane to make landfall on Hawaii since 1992 when Hurricane Iniki slammed into Kauai.

Nazi Camp Guard Arrested In NYC By ICE, Deported To Germany -

A notorious Nazi war criminal has been arrested in New York City and deported to Germany.

ICE agents arrested 95-year-old Jakiw Palij [[YAH-keev PAW-lee]] at his home in Queens Monday. The White House says he was a guard at Nazi concentration camp Trawniki and lied about his identity to get into the U.S. and has been a citizen since 1957.

Palij was stripped of American citizenship in 2003 and ordered deported back in 2004. Yesterday, Germany accepted the deported man and the U.S. Department of State thanked the country for doing so.

Meanwhile, the son of the couple who sold Palij their home back in 1966 is angry. His father was a Holocaust survivor and says the war criminal wouldn’t have left that house alive if his dad had known. Palij was present the day that six-thousand Jewish men, women, and children were shot to death at Trawniki.

Facebook Removes Hundreds Of Russia And Iran Linked Pages And Accounts -

More suspect accounts are being stripped from social media.

Facebook says it has removed hundreds of pages linked to Iranian and Russian influence campaigns. The company said it took down 652 pages and accounts linked to Iranian state media that targeted people on four continents. The networks worked to spread political content without disclosing their ties to Iran as part of a “global disinformation” campaign.

Facebook was tipped off by cybersecurity firm FireEye. The company says this “demonstrates that actors beyond Russia continue to engage in and experiment with online, social media-driven influence operations to shape political discourse.”

The social media giant also said that it's removed some accounts that were linked to Russian military intelligence services trying to spread content about Syria and Ukraine. The Iranian and Russian accounts were not linked.
