*St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch lost the race in an upset against Wesley Bell. McCulloch has been St. Louis County’s top prosecutor since 1991 and has rarely been challenged, in 2014, he ran unopposed. Republicans did not hold a primary so Bell will be St. Louis County's first African-American prosecuting attorney following the November general election.

Man Gets Three Life Sentences For Killing Man He Thought Was Iranian -
A Kansas man is being sentenced to three consecutive life terms for killing a man he thought was Iranian.
Last year, Adam Purinton screamed at two men from India "get out of my country" before shooting them in February of 2017. Purinton had been kicked out but came back with the gun.
He killed Garmin engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla [[ SHREE-NEE-VAAS KUCH-IB-HOTLA ]] and wounded the other. He shot a third man as he was running away from the Austins Bar and Grill in Olathe [[ oh-LAY-thuh ]].
The judge carried out the sentence recommended in a plea bargain. Purinton pleaded guilty to the shootings and also hate crimes. During the sentencing a video was played of the victim's life. Purinton did not watch, instead taking notes and talking to his lawyer.

Chicago Is Beefing Up Weekend Patrols To Stem Violence -
Chicago Police are taking extra measures to address the weekend violence that resulted in 74 people being shot.
Superintendent Eddie Johnson says he will deploy 430 additional officers to five of the hardest hit districts on the city's West and South Sides. Those numbers are expected to increase to 600 by the weekend.
Johnson says some beat officers will have their hours extended during regular shifts, while tactical unit officers will have their days off canceled. The extra resources wil lbe deployed “strategically,” though Johnson didn’t elaborate.
No arrests were made in last weekend’s violence wave.

Child’s Remains Found At Site Of Makeshift New Mexico Compound -
A search for an allegedly abducted Georgia toddler has resulted in the discovery of remains.
The medical examiner is working to identify human remains found at a makeshift compound in Amalia, New Mexico near the Colorado line. The remains were discovered Monday after a tip last week led Taos County Sheriff's deputies to set free eleven children found living there in squalid conditions.
Investigators are looking for a missing Georgia boy suspected of being abducted and taken to the precarious compound by his father, Siraj Wahhaj. Five adults found at the site including Wahhaj are in custody facing child abuse charges.
Paul Ryan Is Okay With Walking Away From Washington, D.C. -
Retiring House Speaker Paul Ryan has no regrets as he prepares to exit.
In an interview with the “New York Times Magazine, “Ryan said he is very comfortable with the decisions he has made and would not do anything differently. The Wisconsin Republican was asked about criticism that he has not been tough enough on President Trump.
He said, "I think some people would like me to start a civil war in our party and achieve nothing." Ryan noted that he counsels Trump privately and said he has averted certain tragedies while advancing numerous goals. He was pressed about his use of the word tragedy and would not elaborate.
