Facebook Use Grew Despite Scandal -
A privacy scandal at Facebook hasn't seemed to hurt the company.
The social media giant made headlines this year when it was revealed that data firm Cambridge Analytica had improperly harvested data from 87 million users in the run up to the 2016 election. Goldman Sachs reports that despite that, the number of Facebook users in the U.S. actually increased 7-percent over the past 12 months, and users are spending more time on the platform.
In an earlier Beebom survey, when asked why the users had not deleted their Facebook accounts, knowing full well of the way their data was mishandled, a vast majority replied with “I don’t know” and “I don’t care”.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is set to appear before EU lawmakers this week to answer questions about privacy and fake news.
The teenage boy who has been charged with killing eight students and two teachers during a shooting spree at a Houston-area high school on Friday was motivated by being rejected by another student, according to her mother. Shana Fisher, a 16-year-old killed in the shooting, rejected the shooter and as his mom says embarrassed him in from of his classmates. If this theory proves to be true, it will be the second shooting at a school in recent months to be inspired by rejection.
