President Trump Will Skip The Kennedy Center Honors Again -
President Trump and the First Lady are skipping the Kennedy Center Honors gala for the second straight year.
The December 2nd event is one of the highlights of the social calendar in the nation's capital. Last year the Trumps announced they would not attend after several of the recipients declined to attend a White House reception hosted by the President. There are a number of Trump critics among this year's recipients, including singer Cher and "Hamilton" star Lin-Manuel Miranda. Other honorees this year are Reba McEntire , composer Phillip Glass, and jazz musician Wayne Shorter. The First Lady's office said the couple was not planning on attending "at this time."
Presidents have no role in selecting the honorees, but they have attended the event nearly every year since 1978. Before Trump, only three presidents missed the event, once because of a hostage crisis and the other two times because they were out of the country.Source: HuffPost
