On This Day in 1975 SNL Debuted With George Carlin As The Host

44 years ago today, Saturday Night Live began their long run on NBC. The host for the very first show was stand up comedy legend, George Carlin.

The show's format was different at the time. Carlin did not appear in any of the sketches. He performed his baseball/football routine to start the show and introduced the musical guests. Yes there were two musical guests! Billy Preston, who performed "Nothing From Nothing," and "Fancy Lady." Janis Ian was also a musical guest on the show and she sang "At Seventeen," and "In the Winter."

Let's re-live the first moments of the first Saturday Night Live, with George Carlin, from 44 years ago today.
