cop spotted texting and driving

A Texas police officer with the Killeen Police Department has found herself in a bit of hot water after a commuter spotted the officer texting while driving in a department vehicle.

The video shared on Facebook by Marcus Evans, showed the officer with one hand on the steering wheel and the other using her phone, while she was driving down the highway.

Chief Charles F. Kimble said the citizen complaint about the officer not paying attention to the road has been received and is currently being reviewed.

"The Killeen Police Department was made aware of a video circulating on social media that depicted a Killeen police officer driving a marked patrol unit with allegations that the officer was not wearing a seatbelt and was texting while driving," said Chief Kimble in a statement. "Although, both of these violations are minor in nature, we understand that the expectations that our community expects were not met in this incident."

Chief Kimble thanked the member of the public who came forward with the video, showing the infraction.

"We take traffic enforcement and safety seriously and will handle this matter the same," Chief Kimble added.
