33 Years Ago Today: The Challenger Disaster

The Space Shuttle Challenger exlpoded shortly after lift off on this day in 1986.  It's one of those days in our lives that we will never forget where we were when we heard the news.

I was in Florida, in the Fort Lauderdale area. We were watching The Price is Right when a Special Report interrupted the show to report the disaster.  We went outside and we were able to see the streams of smoke.

One of the Challenger's crew members was Christa McAuliffe, who was to be the first teacher in space.

That night President Ronald Reagan addressed the nation. It was supposed to be the State of the Union address, which was postponed for the President to give us this moving, poignant and emotional address.

I still get a emotional when I hear it.
