Bob Costas is Leaving NBC

After 40 years with the network, Bob Costas is leaving NBC. He's leaving quietly saying "It's all settled quietly and happily for all concerned."

Bob's name was synonymous with the Olympics, hosting the prime time coverage for many years. The first time I saw Bob Costas was at the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul, South Korea.  A few days into the games he started his coverage with big, black, horn rimmed glasses. He explained quickly that his contacts were irritating his eyes and then identified himself as Mr. Peobody.  I immediately loved the guy.

Years ago at the old Library LTD store in Brentwood. I was asked to be involved with a book signing with Sentaor Bill Bradley.  My job was to read letters from people who couldn't attend the event, but wanted to send well wishes to Sentaor Bradley. The event was hosted by Bob Costas. In the event that Bob couldn't make it, I was going to host the show. I was a nervous wreck. I was hoping Bob would make it because I would pale in comparison.

The night of the event came and I was at the store early and as soon as I walked into the room, I saw Bob. Whew! I was relieved.  I went over to introduce myself to him. I put my hand out to shake his and before I could say a word, he said, "You must be Vic!"  I was stunned.  He treated me so well that night, referring to me many times throughout the night.  He hosted a great tribute to Bill Bradley.

We'll miss you Bob and we're looking forward to your next adventure.

Bob Costas always said what was on his mind.  In this video, Bob explains the brutality of football.
