The Weinstein Company Has A New Owner -
The troubled Weinstein Company is declaring a winner in its bankruptcy sale.
After the company initially made claims of dozens of bidders interested in purchasing the studio, it really came down to three major players: Broadway producer Howard Kagan, Sonar Entertainment, and Lantern Capital. The winning company, private equity firm Lantern Capital, has no ties to the movie industry.
Lantern offered The Weinstein Company 310 million dollars to take over the movie studio, but will also absorb almost 115 million dollars in debt. The Weinstein Company is spiraling after being hit with sexual misconduct allegations against its co-founder, Harvey Weinstein.
A hearing in bankruptcy court to okay the deal is set for next week.
