40 Years Ago Paul McCartney's Rockestra Rocked the Concerts for Kampuchea

December 26th 1979, was the first of four nights at the Hammersmith Odean in London, for the Concerts for the People of Kampuchea. The biggest names in Rock n Roll came to play for a charity for people in the war torn country.

Paul McCartney and Wings, The Who, Queen, The Clash, Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Rockpile with Robert Plant, and many more artists all played for the cause.

One of the highights of the show was a star studded "Rockestra" featuring some of the hottest British artists and bands of the time.

In this video you'll see Pete Townshend, (who wouldn't wear the silver suit the rest of the band were wearing) Robert Plant, Dave Edmunds and countless other rockers who came out for the cause.

This three song video, features the Rockestra, led by Paul McCartney, peforming Little Richard's "Lucille," "Let it Be," and the McCartney composed "Rockestra Theme."

The Concerts For The People of Kampuchea began 40 years ago today.
