50 Years Ago Today, Apollo 11 Launched On Its Way To The Moon

On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy addressed Congress and promised to send a man to the moon, and return them safely back to earth, by the end of the decade.

50 years ago today, July 16, 1969, that dream began to become a reality. It was on this day that Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, blasted off from Cape Canaveral on its way to the moon.

Armstrong and Aldrin would actually step foot on the moon four days later.

The world seemed to stop on July 16, 1969, when the rocket took off. The unfathomable task of putting a man on the moon had begun.
